How does the karma system work?

The Karma System is a method of community self-policing, which is based on peer review. As users gain karma points they will be given more privileges on the system. For instance once you have attained 5 karma points level you will gain the ability to downvote.

Positive Karma:
If you consider a post to be of high quality, you can upvote it, Quality can be judged by whether the post:

  • answers the question well,
  • signals useful resources and/or
  • makes a cogent/valid point

Negative Karma:
If you consider a post to be of poor quality, you can downvote it. Poor quality can be judged by whether the post:

  • does not answer the question well,
  • is not based on evidence

Karma is not to be used to rating whether you like or dislike a post, instead please use the heart button to indicate that you like a post.

If you have any questions or queries about this system still please don't hesitate to get in touch with one of our moderators on moderation@etfoundation.co.uk
